3D tools from InnoMedia

On this page, we bring together the 3D tools available from a variety of vendors that will help you make the best possible images.

  • The Fairburn 3D Camera chart from DSC Labs for setting up your 3D rig and maintaining optimum match between L and R
  • The Astro SM 3324 24” 3D monitor - circular polarisation; either dual HD-SDI inputs for separate L/R or an internal decoder for side by side, over/under or sequential line matrixed feeds
  • The Astro WM-3209 8” onboard waveform/vectorscope with a multitude of 3D analysis tools
  • The Astro HR-7502 uncompressed SSD video recorder- capable of recording 2 x 4:2:2 HD-SDI stereo data streams
  • The Cine-tal Davio processing box, with calibration, LUT management and 3D encode/decode library functions
  • The Cine-tal Dolby processor for viewing 3D images in a screening room via a Dolby colour wheel enabled projector

Astro SM-3324 - click for details

The Astro SM-3324 (left) is a 1920 x 1200 3D monitor, using circular polarisation for separating the L/R eyes. It has two HD-SDI inputs, for separate L/R feeds, or it can accept multiplexed inputs in side by side, over/under or line sequential formats. With several useful tools and options for checking 3D (cursors, zoom, L/R up/dowm phase offset) it is equally as useful in a studio or on-set as in a post production environment. Again, click the images for more details.

Davio image

For processing images prior to display, look no further than Cie-tals highly capable video processing boxes, the Davio (left) and the Dolby processor (above). Running the Davio with the 3D library allows the combining of separate L or R eye, with separate 3D LUTs for each channel (if necessary) to correct for any colour differences (map these using the Fairburn chart!) and a downstream 1D LUT for display calibration. Out puts can be in any of the popular 3D delivery formats, either over HD-SDI or 10 bit HDMI.

For Dolby projection systems, the processor box takes separate HD-SDI feeds and applies Dolby’s colour correction matrix to make the HD-SDI output pair suitable for feeding to a projector fitted with a Dolby display colour wheel system, without the need for a Dolby Showtime server.
