Pleora Technologies Inc., has developed a groundbreaking family of EthercastTM Video IP EnginesTM that transports broadcast video in real time over standard Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) LANs. The engines support SD-SDI, HDVTM, and DVB-ASI formats and an HD-SDI model is coming soon.
EtherCast engines convert video quickly and efficiently to IP packets and pump it live over a GigE LAN. At the other end of the connection, the video is either returned to its original format by a second engine, or driven directly to PC memory using the EtherCast IP Device Driver. Video signals are not compressed or decompressed, transfers are lossless and there are no video quality compromises.
The engines can greatly simplify the creation of a video distribution system by permitting the use of cost-effective CAT-5 cable and standard IP networking infrastructure equipment. Additionally, since they can return the video to its original format, existing investments in end-point equipment are preserved.
The low cost, low power modules suit applications as diverse as:
- Production and Editing rooms
- Stadium, halls and airports
- Medical image networking
- Outside Broadcast
- Distribution of Dailies
Once installed, the modules are effectively transparent to the data flow. The engine for HDV, for example, converts the entire IEEE 1394 stream, including audio/video control information. Each engine has an IEEE 1394 port for connection to any HDV device and is compatible with standard HDV editing software.
