Video processing module solutions from Cine-tal

Davio - One box, multiple solutions!

Davio is a versatile solution for your video signal processing needs in a single, cost effective platform. Inside the Davio hardware is a programmable image processing architecture designed with the power needed for 3Gb/s SDI and HDMI 1.3 image data. The Davio hardware is coupled with the Davio software library creating solutions that meet the most basic to the most complex video processing needs for production, post production, distribution and exhibition. The available library currently comprises of:

  • Display calibration & emulation (incl. cineSpace and LUTs)
  • Color pipeline management (3D LUT management)Davio image
  • 3D stereo processing (combine/uncombine - all modes**)
  • Still Store
  • Frame markers, graticules and cages
  • Monitoring EDID toolkit

Future additions will include:

Launched in September 2008 at IBC the 1/2 rack mountable, flexible display processor module from Cine-tal : -  the Davio TM

  • Image comparison
  • Test signal generator
  • HD to SD conversion
  • Frame rate conversion
  • Format conversion
  • Metadata encode / decode
  • Video and audio delay
  • Bug inserter

** Davio supports all stereo 3D modes except Dolby colour wheel decoding - for that see immediately below! For more information and the latest updates on the increasing library functions, view the latest pdf datasheet here, or visit the Davio page on Cine-tal’s website by clicking on this link.

Cine-tal’s Colour Processor for Dolby 3D, is designed to work in conjunction with a digital projector fitted with the Dolby 3D Cinema Colour Filter (colour wheel). It performs accurate left eye /right eye colour balancing for grading suites and screening rooms, providing the same colour processing as Dolby's Digital Cinema Show Player used in public exhibition theatres. It allows the installation or retro-fitting of Dolby 3D Cinema viewing systems for production and post production professionals in screening rooms, and guarantees the same colour accuracy when 3D material is played back from any source or server and projected through a Dolby 3D Cinema Colour Filter.

The Dolby processor was designed by Cine-tal in conjunction with Dolby Laboratories engineers and would usually be specified by Dolby as part of a complete installation. It takes the Left and Right Eye input data stream from any 2 x HD-SDI data source (1920 x 1080 or 2048 x 1080 HD-SDI 4:2:2) and outputs the matrix-corrected Left/Right feeds for the projector.

Production and Post production professionals benefit from the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of Dolby 3D Digital Cinema in their colour grading suites and screening rooms. Rather than requiring the expense, hassle, and technical compromises of installing a silver screen, Dolby 3D Digital Cinema uses the standard white screen and a standard digital cinema projector with a simple filter accessory.

Launched in September 2006 at IBC the 1.5u rack mountable, external display processor and calibration control unit from Cine-tal :- the eL1000 TM

eL1000 is the ultimate 3D LUT box! It provides calibration and colour management for professional displays that support HD-SDI (single or dual link) and industrial or consumer displays that support DVI-D or HDMI.
The unit has 4 HD-SDI inputs and 2 HD-SDI outputs, that can be re-configured as 2 In 1 Out Dual Link connections. Additionally it has
DVI-D In and Out, supporting 1920 x 1080 and 1920 x 1200 display resolutions.

eL1000 workflow diag

In use the eL1000 offers a processing chain of up to 3 LUT’s - 1D input LUT’s for log/lin conversion (for example); a fully implemented 65 x 65 x 65 3D LUT for colour processing any of the 4 HD-SDI inputs, DVI-D input, framestore or test pattern generator; and finally independent, user configureable 1D output LUTs (one per output) that allow individual profiling and colour management for any external display device.

Automatic profiling (white point, gamma curve, colour matching) is carried out by use of an optional XRite probe and the eL1000’s calibration software suite. However, manual profiling and calibration can be carried out using any measurement probe that provides x,y,Y CIE data.

The eL1000 also offers a split screen mode (for non destructive comparison of raw/LUT corrected images for example), range and gamut violation indication, a Test Signal Generator and a 30 frame internal still-store. It is fully networkable, with all controls, frame grabs, LUT’s and profiles accessible via any web browser enabled device, or (if preferred) via a dedicated mouse, keyboard and VGA monitor.
